Unlike a cattle call or
open casting call, which are open to many actors, a
casting audition is an audition that is more
selective. Instead of many actors to show up for many
different roles, a casting audition is an audition in
which a casting director distributes a notice, usually
to talent
agencies, seeking actors who meet certain basic
requirements for an acting role.
For example, a casting director may be looking to
fill the role of a police officer in his late 30s. In
order to fill that role, the casting director might send
out a notice to the talent agencies in the area,
requesting that all the male actors who are in their early
30s come in for an audition.
